Bluesky: The Future of Decentralized Social Media

Times are changing, AGAIN, as it relates to social media. For the record, I am not a big proponent of change. However, based on what I’ve found, I think this new place, Bluesky, is going to be much better than any of the other social apps thus far.

So, why is it better? Because it will allow you to keep all the connections you make even if you move to another app. Do you know what a big deal that is?! Pretty BIG. I learned it is referred to as decentralization and I think it’s going to change the landscape of social media.

What is decentralization? In a nutshell, you are not centralized to only Bluesky and because I am no expert in this field, here is more information about it. In addition, this new platform is open to developers. Remember when Twitter was relatively new, and it had plugins available to curate your Twitter feed? Bluesky has them!

As this new app moves forward, I am sure more will become available and I think all of this is an absolute game changer. Bluesky is giving me hope for a better future in social media and I’m really excited!

Happy March Monday!

It’s the first day of March and in a couple of weeks we will be changing our clocks forward. I cannot believe how fast time has gone and it appears the faster time goes by the older I get. That saying, “The days are long but the years are short” is so true and in an odd way that feeling is magnified by this pandemic.

For me, some of the more notable events this past month are that I began journaling, turned a year older, picked up a new client as well as took the leap and purchased a new phone.

I like the journaling, but I’m not doing it every day and told myself that’s okay. I’m realizing it’s a good way to express all that crud that goes on in my brain.

I discovered purchasing a new phone these days is a lot like purchasing a vehicle; the contract, payments and set up are all so consuming and a bit overwhelming.

Lastly, this is the 3rd post of the year as I have been posting on the 1st of every month. I like this trend and I’m going to try to keep doing it. And not because I have a fun and awesome story to tell or that I have a big following, but because it keeps me present.

I watched the Oscars last night. Did you? I love the Oscars. I’m a movie buff and I love the escape from our own realities that movies offer us. I can also truly appreciate when an actor makes me believe their character and then can perform a completely different character in another movie, that’s talent. So to watch the award show and the culmination of the year’s movies and all that talent, it’s inspiring. Add the fashion and style that walks the red carpet before the show, and I’m all in!

Last night one speech struck a nerve and truly inspired me within because I keep hearing it over and over in my head, still this morning. It was Hildur Guðnadóttir’s speech after winning best original score for Joker and she said, “To the girls, to the women, to the mothers, to the daughters who hear the music bubbling within, please speak up, we need to hear your voices.” I’m not sure what I’m going to do with that, but I know it struck me and I’d like to think it will inspire some action.

So here’s a post for today’s motivation and I’m hoping it helps with my direction. If not, maybe it will help with yours.

Either way we all need a little Monday Motivation don’t we?
