Happy New Year!

Here we are, another year. Last time I wrote here on the first of the year, it motivated me to write more. So, I’m going to try it again.

I love the idea of a new beginning, a fresh start. And I think the first of the year is a perfect time. Even though I’ve never been a person big on specific new year’s resolutions, there’s something about the new year that makes me want to reset and do better.

I took the below picture today. It’s not a great shot, but it was the only one I got of the sun coming in this morning. I love how the sun streams into the house during the winter months, and I especially like it in the early hours. It’s as if the sun is greeting me and sending positive vibes.

Today, being the first of the year, was a perfect day for it! I’m going to take that as a sign and put positivity in motion for the upcoming year. I’m not sure how this will all play out, but I’m willing to try.

That all being said, let’s get this party started!

Autumn Season is Here

Autumn – It’s my favorite season. Well, one of my favorites. I think I like the fall so much because it’s right after the relentless heat of summer, and that is a welcome break.

This past summer was busy for me, in a good way. It was bustling, exciting, and hopeful as it was filled with exciting ventures and meeting new people. I’m also on the new Threads App and it has been such a great experience. It’s filled with the best like-minded, positive, and supportive people. It’s my new hang out!

Another topic that has been keeping my attention, and keeping me busy with a lot of reading, is the status of our country. Wow. Can you believe it? Almost every day I am in shock about how our government is governing. I suspect what stuns me more, is there are people who continually support those who create chaos. Why?

I’ve come to the conclusion of why with this famous quote:

This quote hits a nerve with me because I was a person who was fooled by the chaos of our current politics. Of course, I didn’t like admitting I was wrong about my original assessment, but when I did admit it, it allowed me to see the truth and the undeniable facts. I remember the moment I realized what was going on and how Donald Trump played into it all. All of the sudden, me – a girl who had never paid attention to politics, began reading anything she could get her hands on to inform her of what was going on in the world. The former president made me pay attention to politics the way a heart attack makes someone pay attention to diet and exercise.

Now, as I watch people, and some I love, fall deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole of lies, I am concerned for them, but I am so thankful I am not one of them.

Happy July 1st!

I tried something very new to me, and I think it’s a perfect time for a reset. Instead of a New Year’s Resolution, it’s a Mid-Year Resolution! YA!

So, cheers to trying something new, promoting better habits, engaging more, and living our best lives.

I love December.

For me, I think it’s a combination of the weather and the festive holiday mood across the world. It’s also a good time to genuinely and deeply reflect on the past year and all there is to be grateful.

So, I made this small list of festive and productive to-dos to keep myself in the presence of December.

For fun, and to get back into sharing in this space because the world needs some cheer, I’m going to try and document my progress with this list. Think I can do it? To be honest, I’m not sure myself but I’m willing to try.

Calypso the Foster Puppy

Our family fostered a puppy, really I fostered a puppy, for two weeks.

After we lost Duke, it was hard for me to even pet another dog without getting emotional. I began distancing myself from dogs to avoid the roller coaster. And then time passed and like they say, “time heals all wounds.” Heals? I will say it helps because I’m definitely better, but I still heartbreakingly miss him.

Her name was Calypso, a spunky, 8-week-old, white terrier mix. I picked her up at the rescue, where there were a ton of dogs. It was loud and chaotic with people coming and going, picking up and dropping off dogs and supplies, with lots of barking.

Interestingly, within hours of bringing her home I could see how we were providing her the perfect surroundings to just be a puppy. Our home provided this 8 week old, uninhibited ball of love a place to be safe, to run and play, and take naps. Watching her sleep soundly in the quietness of suburbia warmed my heart. It was the best feeling and I knew I made the right choice.

We only had her for two weeks, but in those two weeks that little stinker found her way into our hearts. Dogs are amazing aren’t they? She went up for adoption last Saturday and was adopted by a family who adopted her sister a couple of weeks earlier. YAY! Success!

And thank goodness because any longer and this blog would be about our new dog!
